Sick Of The Blues

British indie rock band Porridge Radio has cemented their place as one of the most compelling acts in the indie scene with their last two albums, Every Bad (2020) and Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky (2022). Both records earned widespread acclaim, including Album of the Week honors, solidifying Porridge Radio as a Band to Watch. Now, the band is back with the announcement of their fourth LP, Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, along with the release of its triumphant lead single, “Sick Of The Blues.”

“Sick Of The Blues” captures the raw emotional journey of heartache and the reclaiming of joy. Dana Margolin, the band’s lead singer and songwriter, explains, “‘Sick Of The Blues’ is about being heartbroken and taking back some joy, remembering that you’re the source of your own happiness, not someone else, even when you’re hurt and left with a hole in your heart.” Margolin’s lyrics reflect a desire to regain control and to let go of the pain that has consumed her. “I wanted simplicity, to have fun and remember everything good that could possibly happen,” she adds, emphasizing the importance of finding love and joy in life’s everyday moments.

The journey to this new album hasn’t been without its challenges. Since the release of Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky, the band has seen some changes, with bassist Maddie Ryall departing and Dan Hutchins stepping in. Margolin also faced burnout from extensive touring, compounded by the end of a relationship in 2023. This emotional turmoil deeply influenced the writing of Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me. Margolin describes the album as exploring “a more frenetic and desperate kind of love,” dealing with the pain of losing herself in one relationship and the lingering insecurity that affected a new one.

Recording the album was an intense experience for Margolin, who recalls several breakdowns during the process. “After some takes I would just collapse on the floor, so upset,” she shares, highlighting the emotional weight carried into the studio. The album was recorded with engineer Dom Monks and promises to bring the same raw, visceral energy that fans have come to expect from Porridge Radio.

The release of “Sick Of The Blues” is accompanied by a video directed by Margolin’s sister, Ella, adding a personal touch to the lead single. As the anticipation builds for Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, it’s clear that Porridge Radio continues to push the boundaries of their sound, delivering deeply personal and powerful music that resonates with listeners.
