It is not a coincidence that the cover photo for Ariana’s Grande’s fourth album is the first time. She told Apple Music ‘Ebron Darden’ that SWEETENER is a different album because “It is the first time i feel more present than ever and i see colors more”.
Sweetener is an album about Love, strength, happiness and womanhood as she tries to give people a hug “musically”. She explains that the album is more like a person and entails all that she has been wanting to do.
Musically, Sweetener is a blend of pop, R&B, and trap with influences from house, funk, neo soul, and hip hop in its beats and production.
On the 17th of august 2018, Ariana Grande released a new Album titled “sweetener.” She co-wrote all the songs on the album except her first song while Pharell Williams, Max martin and Charles Anderson handled the production. The album talks about love, physical closeness, bad relationships, being a woman, worry, and pushing through tough times. It’s mostly pop and R&B, with some trap. It also mixes in house, funk, neo soul, and hip hop. Most of the songs are either fast or slow, with a lot of harmonies. When sweetener was officially released, it got a lot of appraisals especially for it’s unique and experimental production style. Some critics thought it was an important album in Ariana’s career because of it’s team. It even won Ariana her first Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 61st Annual Grammy. Sweetener also appeared on many music publications’ lists of the best albums of 2018 and was later recognized in lists looking back at the best albums of the 2010s.
Sweetener debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, which was Grande’s third album to achieve this. It received a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and also reached the top of charts in countries like Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. After releasing Sweetener, Grande did a short promotional tour called The Sweetener Sessions with four shows. Then, in 2019, she started the Sweetener World Tour to promote both Sweetener and her next album, Thank U, Next (2019).
