“Ayra Starr is already a starrr” — Internet reacts to Coco Jones’ praising Nigerian singer’s career and saying she’s “going to be a star”
21 year old songwriter, Arya star has become a household name after she released her track “away” in the year 2021. The song made it to the Billboard top triller global chat. Recent event however has American singer, Coco jones expressing how much she likes Arya star in an interview which happened to be taken out of context by some fans online.
This weekend, Coco Jones’ interview on “The Evolving Outlier Podcast” gained attention on social media. In a clip posted online, the singer praised the Afrobeats genre and mentioned her admiration for Ayra Starr.
“I really enjoy Afrobeats. There’s this artist, Ayra Starr, she’s so fire, and I just met her the other day, and she’s so cool. She’s going to be a star, for sure. She already named herself that, but she gives a vibe,” Jones told host Andrea Humphrey. Jones shared with host Andrea Humphrey.
This statement pissed some of Arya’s fans who took it as a backlash on the artist because they were of the opinion that it was a downgrading statement and downplayed the Nigerian singer’s status.
Another Tweep on Twitter commented, “The most surprising thing about this situation is that Coco Jones didn’t say anything negative about Ayra. She was actually complimenting her. Fans sometimes become the biggest critics of their favorite artists.”
Somebody else highlighted that the success on DSP’s does not necessarily translate abroad. “Y’all are quick to compare artists using numbers [or] streams like it’s all that matters.”
