Nicki Minaj has canceled her second Amsterdam concert following her recent arrest. Dutch officers reportedly discovered drugs in her luggage at Schiphol Airport, leading to the cancellation. The rapper and singer, 41 of age, who is currently on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, was scheduled to perform at the city’s Ziggo Dome on June 2. She was arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in Netherlands over suspicion of exporting drugs before being fined 350 Euros and allowed to go further with her journey.
The authorities accused her of possessing soft drugs (specifically, marijuana pre-rolls) in her luggage. Minaj documented the events on her Instagram Live, sharing a video where a police officer informed her that she was being detained for carrying drugs. She made a request for her lawyers to be present as she emphasized that this arrest was happening in Amsterdam where weed is legal.
“I’m not carrying drugs,” Minaj said on Instagram Live at the time while speaking to a policeman. “I’m not going in there, I need a lawyer present. I need a lawyer present now. Where am I going?” The policeman responded that she had to go to the police station, and that they would work with her to get her to her next show in Manchester. “What am I doing? Oh so I’m under arrest? Under arrest for what?” she said.
Fortunately, she was released after paying the fine a few hours after the arrest. This incident happened just when she was planning and set to commence her tour on the European segment.
On Friday, Dutch promoter Mojo announced on its website that Nicki Minaj’s June 2 show at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome had been canceled. The statement said, “Because of what happened last week, the Nicki Minaj show on Sunday, June 2nd at Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam is canceled. You can get a refund for your tickets where you bought them.”
Nicki Minaj’s representatives did not respond immediately to Variety’s inquiry regarding the canceled Amsterdam concert.
Following the incident on May 25, Minaj successfully performed at a rescheduled show in Manchester, along with shows in Birmingham, London, and Glasgow. She is scheduled to perform in Paris, France this weekend, before continuing her tour in Germany and Poland.
