Pom Pom Squad- “Spinning”

Pom Pom Squad, led by New York’s Mia Berrin, is back with a new single, “Downhill,” released last month. This song is a taste of their upcoming second album Mirror Starts Moving Without Me. Today, the band released another song from the album called “Spinning.”

Mia Berrin talked about “Spinning,” saying, “The song is about learning to deal with painful memories from the past and how they affect my future. By accepting them, I’ve found more freedom and forgiveness within myself.” The song’s lyrics and music show this personal journey.

The music video for “Spinning” was directed by Berrin and Benjamin Lieber. Berrin said, “Many of the lyrics on the album are about watching and analyzing yourself, so I wanted a surveillance room setup for the video. It was fun to make!” The video helps tell the song’s story.

Mirror Starts Moving Without Me follows their 2021 album Death Of A Cheerleader, which got a lot of attention and praise. Talking about the new album, Berrin said, “I looked to my younger self for inspiration. When I had writer’s block, I made a playlist of my favorite songs from childhood to now. It helped me more than I expected!”

Berrin also had her bandmates and producer Cody Fitzgerald make their own playlists. “We all listened to each other’s playlists and talked about them. During recording, we used ideas from these playlists,” Berrin explained. This teamwork brought a lot of different influences to the new album.  With Mirror Starts Moving Without Me, Pom Pom Squad is set to explore new musical and emotional ground.

The lead single “Spinning” gives a preview of an album that will be thoughtful and moving, marking another big step in the band’s journey.
