John Legend is about to release a new children’s album called My Favorite Dream, produced by Sufjan Stevens. This surprising collaboration brings together two well-known musicians from different places—Legend from Ohio and Stevens from Michigan—to create a special collection of songs for kids and families.
My Favorite Dream will be released in just three weeks. The album is described as a mix of “sing-alongs and lullabies for children and families.” It features nine original songs by Legend, along with three covers of classic Fisher-Price songs. Legend’s inspiration for the album comes from his own life, both as a child and now as a father. He remembers how his parents would often sing around the house, making up songs to help him and his siblings go to bed or to encourage and motivate them. Now, he and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, do the same with their four children: Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren.
In a recent interview, Legend shared, “My parents loved to sing around the house, making up bedtime songs for us and songs to motivate and inspire us. And Chrissy and I also love singing to our kids. We make up little jingles and ditties for them all the time. In our home, music is very important to the way we interact and communicate with them.”
The collaboration with Sufjan Stevens adds something special to the project. Stevens is known for his gentle and thoughtful music, and his production style brings a unique sound to the album.
