Stevie Nicks : “The Lighthouse,”

Stevie Nicks is set to perform on Saturday Night Live this fall, and it looks like she will have new music to showcase. She has written a song titled “The Lighthouse,” which is her first new release since 2020’s “Show Them The Way.” Nicks collaborated with Magnus Birgersson and Vincent Villuis on the writing and produced the track alongside Sheryl Crow and Dave Cobb. In addition to producing, Crow also plays bass, electric guitar, and provides background vocals on the song.

“The Lighthouse” serves as a powerful anthem for women, particularly in response to the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. Nicks delivers strong lyrics that encourage listeners to look toward the future and express their anger about the changes: “Try to see the future, and get mad,” she sings. “It’s slippin’ through your fingers / You don’t have what you had.”

In a statement accompanying the song, Nicks shared her thoughts on its creation. She explained that she began writing it a few months after the Roe v. Wade ruling was overturned. The sudden shift in rights sparked conversations about collective action, and for Nicks, that meant creating music.

She noted that her busy schedule on tour delayed the songwriting process. However, one morning, while watching the news, a particular newscaster’s words resonated with her, making her feel as if they were speaking directly to her. Inspired by this moment, she wrote the song the following morning and recorded it that same night.

That day was September 6, 2022, and since then, she has been refining the track. Nicks has often reflected on the importance of this song, stating, “This may be the most important thing I ever do,” as it represents her commitment to advocating for women and their rights, as well as for the men who support them. “The Lighthouse” is described as an anthem, and fans are eager to hear it.
