Maria Somerville : “Projections”

Irish musician Maria Somerville, known for her contributions to Richard Russell’s Everything Is Recorded project, has been steadily building a unique sound over the years. After signing with the prestigious 4AD label, she contributed a cover of Air Miami to the Bills & Aches & Blues compilation. Her 2019 album All My People saw Somerville infusing traditional Irish folk music with influences from post-punk and ambient drone, creating a haunting and immersive experience. Now, with her latest single “Projections,” she continues to explore that distinctive blend of genres.

“Projections” is a dreamy, ethereal track where Somerville’s soft, almost languid vocals float over atmospheric, spaced-out guitar melodies. The song exudes a woozy, dream-pop vibe that feels both delicate and otherworldly. Its gentle, hypnotic quality captures the listener, making for a strikingly beautiful composition. Notably, “Projections” is Somerville’s first release under the 4AD label.

In addition to the new single, Somerville is set to make her return to the live stage with her first headline shows since 2019, performing in Dublin and London this fall. You can check out the song “Projections” as well as her upcoming live dates below.
