Dean Wareham : “Pretty Paper,”

In 2020, Dean & Britta, the duo comprised of Galaxie 500’s Dean Wareham and his wife and Luna bandmate Britta Phillips, collaborated with Sonic Boom (a.k.a. Peter Kember from Spacemen 3) to create some festive tunes. Today, they have reunited for a full holiday album titled A Peace Of Us, set to be released next month. As a preview, the single “Pretty Paper” is available now.

According to the press release, A Peace Of Us draws inspiration from a diverse mix of genres, including early ’60s pop, garage rock, country, James Bond soundtracks, Christmas carols, and electronica. Dean Wareham describes “Pretty Paper” as a poignant song originally made famous by Roy Orbison in 1963. While he acknowledges its beauty, he highlights the sadness of the lyrics, which tell the story of a man sitting alone outside a department store, selling ribbons and wrapping paper.
