Last June, Ela Minus released “Combat,” marking her first single since the debut album Acts of Rebellion in 2020. This track will also serve as the closing song on her upcoming album, Dia, which is set to drop in January. In anticipation of the release, she has shared another new track today titled “Broken.”
Ela Minus wrote Dia while traveling across various locations, including California’s Mojave Desert, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Mexico City, and London. Much like the rest of the album, “Broken” blends her electronic roots with elements of classic singer-songwriter music, featuring her vocals prominently over a steady four-on-the-floor beat.
Reflecting on the writing process for “Broken,” Minus reveals, “I started writing this thinking I was perfectly fine and finished writing knowing I was not. Went to hell and back, left all the way / Now I’m broken.” The track builds up with synths and percussion, creating a sense of hope as it signals a light at the end of the tunnel.
The music video for “Broken” was co-directed by Minus and Losmose, and you can watch it below.
