Cocomyrrh: First, permit me to ask, Tyrus J. The J stands for what?
Tyrus J: My middle name is Jamaal.
Cocomyrrh: I’ll like to commend your latest album, great work you’ve got there. How long have you been into music? How did it all begin?
Tyrus J: I’ve been in music as long as I can remember. Grew up singing and playing the piano with my mom. Church choirs, school choirs. I always been around music
Cocomyrrh: What inspired the album, “Really That”?
Tyrus J: Really that was a body of work that served as my coming to the light as an artist moment. It’s a narration of my most recent life experiences. ‘Really That’ is an album that showcases my versatility, and ability to give a hood feel to R&B music.
Cocomyrrh: There are 17 tracks on this album, that seems like a lot of work in there. How long did it take to get this album out?
Tyrus J: The album consisted of songs recorded from 2021 to this current year. A lot of different emotions and feelings went behind this project.
Cocomyrrh: What challenges did you face?
Tyrus J: Consistency was my biggest challenge. Wanting to hit the studio and vent to the microphone.
Cocomyrrh: My favorite track on the album is “On 1”. What’s your favorite or what track do you connect with the most on the Album?
Tyrus J: Thank you! That’s one of my favorites because of the message in it. But I’d have to say my favorite is Rumani: it’s a song dedicated to my newborn daughter.
Cocomyrrh: Congratulations about your daughter. What was unique about the recording process of the Album?
Tyrus J: Thank you. Everything was recorded in real time. Natural feelings.
Cocomyrrh: What’s one thing you want the audience to know?
Tyrus J: Tyrus J is here to stay! He’s making waves in many genres.
Cocomyrrh: Any live performance?
Tyrus J: Recently performed in Atlanta on Halloween
Cocomyrrh: Your music blends Rap and singing so well but I’ll like to know, what was it about Rap that drew you in?
Tyrus J: Probably just growing up around it. Everybody always gets together and spits bars. Everyone’s always throwing on a beat and flowing. I guess it’s just something I discovered that I could do while holding melodies. I’m an R&B soul.
Cocomyrrh: What message do you want your audience to take from the Album?
Tyrus J: I want my audience to know that I’m really that and I’m coming. This is my time and I’m going to show be world. This was just a glimpse. 2025 is my year.
Cocomyrrh: We love the sound of that. Your recent album featured exciting collaborations. Should we be looking forward to more features in your future projects?
Tyrus J: Definitely! The future is bright. More music, visuals, features. I have so much to offer and I’m going to give it in due time! Stay tuned!
