A Little Drop of Sanity is Wave and Wire‘s latest Ep and it marks an exciting new step for the band. This release is proof of how far they have come musically and in sound. This EP hits hard with undiluted emotions and an energy that shows the band has found it’s voice. It is an Ep that communes with fans both old and new.
The creative process of A Little Drop of Sanity is one of the reasons why it stands out. It was teamwork as every member of the song was involved in writing every song. The process begins with LK (The singer) and Bruno (the drummer) working together on the initial ideas. Once they got something started, the rest of the band joined in to develop and shape the song into something solid. They bring together their unique influences and styles to make this Ep a masterpiece.
The band also worked on this EP with their longtime producer, Mat Groulx, who has been with them through every step of their journey. They’ve grown together and his influence is a huge part of what makes the sound of this EP strong and polished. This is the band’s first EP as a full five- member group and their growth is something to be proud of.
The inspiration behind this EP is from the 90’s and 2000’s rock bands like Foo fighters and Queens of the stone age. Although the band did not want to just recreate those sounds, they instead took those influences and put their own touch on them, blending new sounds with their personal style. Some of the songs on this release also came from older ideas like snippets from past projects which never got released but over time the band realized that mixing these old pieces with new ones was the perfect idea.
A Little Drop of Sanity is beyond music; it is about Wave and Wire’s journey as a band. The title itself suggests a mix of chaos and calm. It’s like trying to stay grounded in the midst of life’s challenges. It reflects their growth both as musicians and as people. For them, this release feels like the first true EP and a snapshot of who they currently are. A band that has learned and taken lessons from every experience while looking forward to the future ahead of them.
Each song on A Little Drop of Sanity tells it’s own story, and together they create a dynamic, emotional journey for those who listen. Here is a closer look at the tracks.
Lighthouse opens the Ep with a bright and uplifting energy. The song is full of breezy guitar riffs and rhythmic beats that give it a feel-good type of vibe. Beneath all that surface, the lyric is filled with longing as lines like “Lighthouse guiding ships in the storm/please guide me home”. The song preaches the need for direction when everything feels uncertain, but it never loses it’s sense of hope and movement. It’s a perfect start to the Ep
Eat Your Tofu is a shift in tone. It starts slow with a dark, mysterious feel that continues to build. The tension throughout the song keeps you hooked and when the chorus eventually hits, it is a powerful release of energy.
Collateral Damage shows the band’s ability to control dynamics. It starts off soft and vulnerable with simple instrumentation but as it builds, it becomes a rock anthem. The raw energy of the guitar matches the intensity of the lyric. The track is about emotional growth and the complexities of love.
Lack of Decorum closes the Ep with a bang. It’s impossible to ignore this explosive track. Lines like “Where is your spine/ Is it stuck in some trust fund?” hits you hard delivering a message of lack of respect and decency in current discourse.
A Little Drop of Sanity is a major step forward for Wave and Wire and it shows a new level of confidence in their music. This Ep feels like the beginning of something huge and it is worth a listen. It’s the type of work that deserves to be shared to as many as can reach.
With a big show coming up in June at La Casa Del Popolo in Montreal, fans will get a chance to hear the full Ep live and it sure will be a night to remember.
