The Amanda Emblem Experiment started in 2017 in SE Queensland led by Amanda Emblem. an American songwriter who has become famous for songs that feels like an emotional journey. Her voice is a mixture of strong, and soft and the band features a lineup of Kelly King, Billy Adams, Scott Astill and Moses King.

The song was born on the sandy shores sparked by a camping holiday on K’gari (Fraser Island), a place of extraordinary natural beauty and cultural significance. Home to one of the last protected pure-bred Dingo populations, K’gari also attracts thousands of visitors each year, blending wildlife conservation with family tourism and off-road adventure. Despite extensive management strategies—dingo-proof fencing, public warnings, and ongoing education—incidents between humans and Dingoes continue to occur. It is within this uneasy coexistence that Ancient Dingo finds its emotional and conceptual foundation.

Ancient Dingo draws it’s inspiration from one of Australia’s most misunderstood and controversial animals, The Dingo. This animal has been argued about for the longest time. If you can remember the 1981 tragedy where a baby was taken from a tent at Ayers Rock (now known as Uluru.) As more people move into the bush and more tourists go camping, Dingoes are being forced to live closer to humans. These animals are related to Wolves which means they have a tough social life and need a lot of space to thrive. Sadly, as our population grows, the Dingo is being pushed away.

For the love of Butchalla people, the Dingo is a Totem (a sacred animal with deep family ties) and before the Europeans arrived on K’gari, there were two types of Dingoes. We had the Wat’dha which was the camp Dingo that helped people hunt and also protected them from bad spirits then we had the Wongari which was the wilder Dingo.

The message of the song is a warning. Dingoes are curious and, might come close to people but they’re not pets. Amanda and the band want everyone to appreciate how unique these animals are while staying safe and keeping a respectful distance. The release on Wild record actually gives you two different vibes to this song, with each version reinforcing the song’s themes from different angles.
