Amanda Emblem Experiment just released her fourth album The Wood, a collection of deeply personal, place rooted songs that carry the scent of salt air and the warmth of woodsmoke. It’s a musical love letter to creative freedom and the people/places that shapes us.
The album titled inspired by one of the tracks on the album sets the tone; earthy, reflective and full of quiet reverence. Inspired by the pine kitchen table where it came to life and the White Cedar guitar it was composed on. The song really carries a physical connection to nature that’s almost spiritual. It is more than melody; it’s a symbol of renewal. Of artistry born from nature. Of music that literally grows from the land.
The guitar is not just an instrument; it is part of the story. As Amanda explains, her music comes from real people, real places and a very real desire to honor the songs. The wood is evidence of living with music and sitting with it till it becomes whole.
A good part of the album was written during a post COVID life pivot. After spending years growing spray free veggies for her community, Amanda and her partner made a quiet escape to the Great Sandy Strait. Boats were bought, Tides were checked, Fresh fish was eaten and in the calm of the new coastal rhythm, the songs began to flow.
The wood is a representation of the phrase “Music is a way of life” and it feels so authentic. It captures the essence of the entire project, intimate, organic and personal.
The album was produced by Andy Tainsh and his tasteful additions on the Piano, keys and guitars added texture without overwhelming Amanda’s storytelling. It’s a collaboration that lets each song breathe freely.
Tracks like “Together Feeling” brings a warm arrangement that pairs perfectly with the gentle motion of waves and a heart steering toward connection. “Hanging Rock” lingers in your mind as the song leans into mystery. Inspired by the Australian classic picnic at Hanging Rock, this track leaves you with more questions than answers in the best possible way.
The Wood is Amanda’s way of reminding us of what it feels like to make an album, a real one. A body of work. A story that’s told in multiple chapters.
If you’re just coming across Amanda Emblem’s Experiment, this album is a perfect way to introduce you to her music, it’s a must listen.
