Q: Congrats on your debut single Sometimes Vampires. It’s already called the perfect Halloween song. How would you describe it?
Dark Matter Sun: Thank you. Sometimes Vampires is a spooky song with rich strings and soulful vocals. It tells the story of a girl who meets a vampire during the day. It feels like no time of day is safe anymore. The music pulls you in, just like a vampire would. It’s haunting but beautiful, perfect for Halloween.
Q: Your sound mixes classical strings, blues, and pop. How did you come up with this style?
DMS: We’re inspired by Dartmoor, where we’re from. The wild and empty landscapes there really shape our music. For this song, we wanted to mix the elegance of classical music with the emotion of blues and storytelling from folk. It’s a mix of old and new, which fits the vampire theme.
Q: Why did you choose to cover Sometimes Vampires by The Candy Republic?
DMS: Their version is a great indie pop track with a cool story. We wanted to make it darker and more dramatic. Our producer, Ian Pirrie, helped us bring that vision to life. It’s more than just a song—it feels like a short movie in music form.
Q: The song tells a story. Can you explain it more?
DMS: Sure! It’s about a woman alone at home. A strange woman knocks on her door. She feels she shouldn’t open it, but something about the visitor makes her do it anyway. It’s a story about danger and being drawn to something you know is bad for you.
Q: Why is Sometimes Vampires perfect for Halloween?
DMS: Halloween is about spooky, mysterious, and thrilling things. This song has all that. It gives you chills and keeps you hooked. It’s eerie but also beautiful, like a good Halloween story.
Q: People say your music reminds them of Björk and Mazzy Star. How do you feel about that?
DMS: That’s amazing! Both artists are so good at creating emotional and unique music. If people feel a connection, we’re very happy.
Q: What can fans expect from your album?
DMS: It’s full of haunting and emotional songs like this one. Each track tells its own story, but they all feel deep and unforgettable. The album will give you chills in the best way.
Q: Any message for your fans?
DMS: Let yourself enjoy the spooky season with us. Feel the chills, the mystery, and the beauty in the dark. And remember—daytime isn’t always safe anymore.
