KEOGEA- Prophets

A lot of times, artists rush out their tracks to meet up with trends and algorithm but with NYC artist Keogea the story is different. The rapper who worked together with Houston producer Ezzyo to drop his latest track Prophets took his time and built this song from scratch into something worth applauding.

The track didn’t just come together overnight. In fact, after working on an early version with a different engineer, the duo realized the energy wasn’t quite what they wanted. Instead of settling, they rebuilt the entire song from the ground up.

Walking across the map between New York City and Houston, Texas, Keogea and Ezzyo relied on constant communication, trust and a shared vision. Channeling the soulful introspection of artists like J.Cole and Mac Miller, the track opens up about keeping your head high, trusting God ‘s plan and pushing through life’s toughest moments.

The atmosphere in this track is something you notice the moment you hit play. The production is rich and it doesn’t overwhelm you. With it’s soft sound, warm saxophone melodies, live-style drums and dreamy instrumentation which all work together beautifully to create a powerful listening experience.

Every sound has time to breathe, nothing is out of place or rushed which allows the music slowly draw you into the world Keogea has created. The instruments focus on supporting emotions behind the lyric. The producer Ezzyo deserves a lot of credit here because his production gives the song a polished finish without taking away the raw emotion that makes the song genuine.

The hook is sung by vocalist MaeSTRO who steps in with a soaring melodic hook that gives the track it’s emotional, unforgettable heart. His contribution keeps the overall mood consistent. Maestro also played a key role in the Engineering process, helping shape the technical side of the recording.

Lyrically, the message “Prophets” tries to pass is the resilience and belief that every challenge has a purpose, so we just need to hold on to God’s plan. Keogea doesn’t present these ideas in a subtle way and from a place of honesty. His lyric sounds like the thoughts of someone who has experienced setbacks, questioned the journey and still chosen to keep moving forward. That honesty is the song’s greatest strength.

There’s this sense of vulnerability throughout the record that makes it easy to connect with no matter the struggles you might be going through. It feels like Keogea tries to remind listeners that growth is rarely easy, but faith, resilience and self-belief carry you through even the hardest moments.

The level of commitment put into this song shows an artist who understands that music isn’t only about what people hear, it’s also about what they feel and remember. The patience is something you can hear. Nothing rushed. Every decision that led to the release of Prophets was intentional.

Prophets marks the first official collaboration between Keogea and Ezzyo and judging by the chemistry they show here, it probably won’t be the last. I can’t even emphasize how refreshing it feels to hear two independent artists invest so much care into every part of a release.

Although there are no live performance yet, Keogea hints that they will come sooner rather than later. If Prophets is any indication of what’s ahead, there’s plenty of reason to look forward to what comes next.
