In the world of Classical Music, it is rare to find a composer who can mix old school elegance with a modern feel yet Richard Green does that excellently with his latest single Midnight.

Coming from a Milan/London background, Richard Green has built a style that doesn’t fit into just one genre. He’s not only a composer but also a guitarist and an artist who enjoys blending different sounds together. In this track, he brings together a handful of talented artists; Irene Veneziano and Archimia Strings Quartet whose performance both play a huge role in shaping the track, giving it both emotional depth and a polished, cinematic touch.
Midnight was recorded at the famous studio near Piacenza, Italy and the song title gives you an insight on what the song is about. Midnight is meant to represent that tiny slice of time where one day ends and a brand new one begins. Green turns this simple idea into something emotional and meaningful. The music feels dark but not in an overwhelming way. Instead, it has a quiet beauty, like sitting alone late at night and reflecting on your thoughts. There’s a sense of ending, but also the feeling that something new is about to begin.

Richard Green had the intention of creating a ballad and when you listen to the song, you can just feel that somber mood. It’s like a journey reaching it’s end.
The song begins with a very clear, delicate piano melody. This is played by Irene Veneziano, who is one of the top classical pianists in Italy. She plays each note with so much love and care that it almost feels like she tells a story through the instrument. There’s a lot of space in the music, which makes it feel personal and almost meditative. As the piece continues, the Archimia Strings Quartet slowly joins in, adding layers of sound that support and expand the piano’s melody. Sometimes they follow the piano closely, and other times they add their own ideas, creating a rich and flowing conversation between the instruments.
Richard is great at using contrast. This means the music goes from very quiet, lonely moments to big, powerful sounds like those in the movies. He is also a versatile artist who loves to experiment. His main strength is his ability to handle many different styles. A talented artist indeed.

Within the EP “A Journey,” “Midnight” acts like a final chapter. It represents the end of a path, wrapping up the emotional story of that project. But in the bigger trilogy—which continues with “The Circle Closes” and ends with “First Light”—it also feels like a turning point. It closes one phase while quietly opening the door to the next. That balance between ending and beginning gives the track a deeper meaning.
Midnight is indeed a special project because even though the instruments are classical, the way the music is put together feels like pop, jazz or even rock at the same time. This song is the perfect place to start if you want to hear what Richard Green is about and trust me, you’re going to wish you discovered him earlier. It doesn’t even matter that “Midnight” was released a few years ago, it still feels fresh today.
