Native Greek musician Nick Anastasakis, better known as the frontman of his indie-rock group, The Afro Nick, is debuting his latest single, “Get There Before Noon.” Previously recorded in studios across New York, this track is a rearranged and re-recorded version finalized in Nick’s
home studio in LA.
Growing up on the island of Crete, Nick credits the local romani people, “playing their guitars for coins on the Venetian cobblestone streets,” as one of his earliest musical influences. Before settling in New York and then LA, Nick toured throughout Crete – an unusual feat for an indie rock band at the time- with his former group, Stray Blue. Since then, he has been releasing as the selfproduced and liberated artist, The Afro Nick, a nod also to his own “wild and expressive hair.” Nick’s music has been featured on television in season ten of PBS’s, “Roadtrip Nation” series and on international radio stations such as Cosmos FM, an educational organization dedicated to preserving Greek heritage in the United States.
The Afro Nick’s latest single, “Get There Before Noon (LA Mix),” is a heartfelt reminder to live in the present. This song is a fusion of indie, alternative, and psychedelic rock to create a sound that is both energetic and calming. It captures the feeling of urgency while also encouraging you to slow down and enjoy life’s moments. Originally inspired by the hustle of New York City, the track has been reimagined with a laid-back Los Angeles vibe, offering listeners a unique mix of two very different energies.
This song is like a crossroads where the fast pace of life meets the peacefulness of a quiet moment. The original version, recorded in New York City, carried the raw energy and grittiness of the city. In this LA Mix, that energy is softened with a relaxed West Coast mood, making it feel like a sunny drive along the coast. The music invites you to roll down your windows, take a deep breath, and enjoy the journey.
The music in “Get There Before Noon” is rich and layered. The guitar riffs give the song its indie-rock soul, while the shimmering synthesizer sounds, played by Grammy-winning musician Leonardo Genovese, add an otherworldly feeling. Genovese’s contribution takes the song to another level, filling it with dreamy, celestial tones that make it feel almost magical.
Nick’s voice stands out with its raspy, heartfelt delivery. His singing carries both a sense of nostalgia for the past and a hopeful ambition for the future. This balance makes the song relatable for anyone chasing dreams, cherishing memories, or simply trying to make the most of life’s fleeting moments.
The lyrics of the song are simple yet powerful. Lines like “And on one day, you gonna miss that day,” and “I got to live this life, not yesterday,” encourage listeners to seize the day and live fully. The final line, “and all you have to do, is get there before noon,” sums up the message: don’t waste time. Whether it’s achieving your goals or appreciating small joys, life is too short to delay.
Nick shared that the inspiration for the song came from a real experience. After a long night hanging out with friends in New York City, he woke up tired but needed to get to a recording session before noon. That sense of urgency became the heart of the song, reminding us that even in the rush, there’s beauty to be found.
The production of this track is impressive. While the song was initially recorded in New York, Nick finalized this version in his home studio in Los Angeles. This personal touch gives the song a warm and intimate feel. Leonardo Genovese’s synthesizer work enhances the track, making it sound fresh and vibrant. The collaboration between Nick and Genovese is a standout feature, blending their talents seamlessly.
