AIDEN BUTTON; Splashed City

Aiden Button is a multi-genre composer, producer, and keyboardist celebrated for his versatility and rich soundscapes. His musical journey began at age four, improvising with just a radio for inspiration. Aiden went on to graduate with top honors in Classical Composition from the prestigious Conservatorio A. Steffani di Castelfranco Veneto.

Q: Splashed City stands out as a lo-fi track with live instrumentation. What inspired this approach?
Aiden Button: I wanted to do something different with Splashed City. Lo-fi often relies on loops and samples to create that laid-back vibe, but I felt it would be more authentic and immersive to perform every element live. There’s something special about the small imperfections and nuances that come with live performance—they add warmth and character to the music.

Q: The Crystal Piano patch from the Roland JD-800 plays a key role in the track. What drew you to this sound?
Aiden Button: The Crystal Piano patch is iconic for a reason. It has this bright, expansive tone that instantly opens up a track, making it feel larger than life yet intimate at the same time. For Splashed City, I wanted a sound that could convey openness and introspection, and the Crystal Piano was perfect for that. Its shimmering quality brings a sense of light and space to the song, balancing the deeper, driving bassline.

Q: Tell us about your musical journey and how it shaped Splashed City.
Aiden Button: My love for music started young—I began improvising at just four years old, inspired by the radio. That early creativity led me to formal training at the Conservatorio A. Steffani di Castelfranco Veneto, where I graduated in Classical Composition. Over the years, I’ve explored so many genres, from progressive metal with Stargate to glam metal with Fallen Angel and even ’70s rock with Biste Boys. Each of these projects taught me something new and broadened my perspective. For Splashed City, I drew on all of these influences to create a piece that’s both sophisticated and approachable.

Q: Lo-fi music often evokes nostalgia. How did you achieve this feeling while keeping the sound fresh?
Aiden Button: Nostalgia in lo-fi usually comes from its imperfections and warmth. With Splashed City, I leaned into the natural flow of live performance—minute shifts in timing, variations in dynamics—to create that organic feel. At the same time, I used modern elements like the Crystal Piano to give the track a fresh and open sound. It’s about finding a balance between the raw, unpolished charm of lo-fi and a more expansive, cinematic vibe.

Q: What story or emotion do you hope listeners take away from Splashed City?
Aiden Button: I see Splashed City as a blank canvas. The idea is for listeners to project their own emotions and stories onto it. Whether it’s a moment of quiet reflection, a soundtrack for creative work, or just a way to relax, the track is open to interpretation. The gentle tones and evolving layers are there to guide the listener, but ultimately, it’s about their personal experience.

Q: What’s next for you after Splashed City?
Aiden Button: I’m always exploring new ideas and genres, so you can expect more experimentation. I’m also working on projects that blend my classical background with modern sounds, diving deeper into ambient and cinematic styles. The goal is always to push boundaries and create music that connects on a deeper level.

With Splashed City, Aiden Button proves that lo-fi music can be innovative. By embracing live performance and crafting a sound that feels expansive yet intimate, he’s created a track that stands out in a crowded genre. Be sure to add it to your chill or focus playlists—it’s a listening experience you won’t want to miss.
