The Heart Of A Musician; Jaime reflects on his journey and “All Those Years”

Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting with Jaime Tone, an excellent artist about his latest release “All Those Years” and his unique journey through music and life. In our conversation, we explored his creative process, the inspiration behind his work and so much more.

Cocomyrrh: We are excited to talk about your EP, “All those years”. It feels like such a meaningful title, and we are curious to hear the story behind it. Care to fill us in?

Jaime: First of all, thank you very much for this interview. I am really happy to be interviewed by COCOMYRRH.

The title of the EP is a reflection of the songs that form the album, from the early years of life, that may be easy or challenging depending on your life, until the elder years, that I call “sunset years”. And the last song “Years Ahead” talks about what we should/could expect for the future. So, in short, it is a journey throughout the life of some individuals, and a glimpse into the future.

Cocomyrrh: Are there any personal experiences that influenced this release?

Jaime: This is the first album where I write songs about my family history. In this sense, it is almost like a solo album, hence the new Jaime’s Tone logo on the artwork cover. Therefore, the answer to your question is yes, as the lyrics mix testimonies and my personal feelings about what happened. I also share some of my views about how one should perceive the future. In these challenging times, I think we shall try and be more optimistic, and look more at what is bright, rather than focusing on what is not that nice in today’s world.

Cocomyrrh: How do you picture “All those years” reflecting on your journey in times to come? Do you think it would shape your career?

Jaime: It is definitely a distinctive album, quite different from those I had already released. Although the listener will find the Jaime’s Tone touch, it is a more intimate album from the point of view of the lyrics. Music wise, the album includes various styles, and I really produced the album differently. According to the feedback I get, I feel that people have perfectly understood the meaning of “All Those Years” and the evolution from the first song “Challenging Years” to the last song “Years Ahead”. I plan in the future to release more albums in this vein, although I am also preparing more “standard”’ Jaime’s Tone’s stuff as well.

Cocomyrrh:  Are there any messages you hope to convey through this beautiful body of work?

Jaime: I wish to convey a message of hope. Despite all the hurdles that some of my family members encountered in their lives, they managed to survive, found a family, and give their chances to their children. Resilience is important, and the future may not be as dark as some would like us to think.

Cocomyrrh: What’s your favorite track on this EP? And why?

Jaime: This is a difficult question, as all tracks form a whole story. From the musical perspective, I think that “Forgotten Years”, with its mix of reggae and rock, is probably the closest one to my own musical taste. Songs like “Bold Years” and “Years Ahead” are farther away from what I had done previously, and I like that as well. But once again, this is an album that should preferably be listened to in its entirety.

Cocomyrrh: Each track seems like you’re telling a story in a particular order. From Challenging years to Teenage Years to Sunset years, is this EP about you or your experience in life?

Jaime: Indeed, each track tells a story, and they somewhat follow each other, from the early years of life to what awaits us in the future. As I explained previously, the lyrics are a mix of family history and of my own feelings, so, I guess the answer to this question should be “yes and no”.

Cocomyrrh: If you could send a message to your fans in a few words, what would it be?

Jaime: Try and take the time to listen to the album. You will have a whole different experience than listening to one or two tracks, even the ones you like more. I know it is a lot to ask nowadays, but believe me, it is worthwhile. And thank you so much for listening to Jaime’s Tone’s music!
