On the 22nd of November 2024, Wizkid released his sixth studio album, a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Mrs. Balogun.
Morayo which translates to “I See Joy” in Yoruba is an album dedicated to his late mother Juliana Morayo Balogun who passed away in 2023. Wizkid describes it as “The Best Album I Ever Made.” The super star had a very close relationship with his mother so it’s no surprise how hard her death hit him and why this piece of work would be one where he puts his heart and soul into it.
On Morayo, Wizkid explores and delivers different styles as there’s something for every listener depending on their preference. The album has every type of sound your ear yearns for. He brought his A- game as he collaborates with A-list producers who deliver a great production which is one of the best parts of this album
This album kicks off with “Troubled Mind” where he samples the live performance from King Wasiu Ayinde at his mother’s funeral celebration. He remembers his mom again at the closing track “Pray” where he says she is watching over him.

The album features 16 tracks with collaborations from artists like Brent Faiyaz and Asake showcasing a blend of genres. “Kese” and “Piece of my heart” seem to be driving fans crazy as they’ve had it on replay since the release of the album. Kese can be heard buzzing on speakers on the streets of Tiktok, Instagram and even Twitter as fans share the song with excitement. Bad girl featuring Asake isn’t backing down either as almost every blogger on Instagram has this sound on their post.

Wizkid’s new masterpiece “Morayo” recently scored the biggest streaming debut for any African album in Spotify history with 17.6 million streams on it’s first day on Spotify.
As of writing this article, the album has surpassed 94.4 million streams across four platforms including Audiomack and Youtube music. On the Worldwide apple music album, it maintains Number 7 position and on Apple music top album charts, it was sitting at Number 1.
Wizkid’s Morayo has also broken record for the most single day streams for any album in Spotify Nigeria Record with over 12 million streams.
This remarkable feat not only highlights the artist’s popularity, but it also screams the growing influence of Afrobeats on global music platforms.
