Zurich, Art pop, Dream Pop artist Ingeborg, released her latest single, “Root for You” on 25 October 2024. The song, featuring a cinematic art pop blend of electronic beats, Piano, harp and violin, delves into themes of empowerment, inner strength and selfacceptance.
“Root for You” is a heartfelt anthem that speaks to anyone who has faced, or is currently going through life’s challenges, to come out stronger. Written as a tribute to her inner child, Ingeborg’s new track emphasizes the importance of self-support and resilience. The song is introspective with an uplifting message.
Q: Congratulations on your new single, Root for You! It’s an inspiring anthem. Can you tell us what motivated you to write this song?
Thank you! Root for You was born from a deeply personal place. It’s a tribute to my inner child and to anyone navigating life’s challenges. I wanted to create something introspective yet uplifting—something that reminds us all to support ourselves and find resilience within. It’s about remembering who we are, even in the toughest moments.
Q: The lyrics are so powerful. Can you share the story behind them?
The lyrics are a reflection of inner conflict and resolution. Lines like, “The devil’s in the words, and he has you bleeding,” speak to the struggles we face when our minds are overwhelmed. But there’s a hopeful undertone—an encouragement to pause, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves. That’s what the song is about: rooting for yourself, no matter the circumstances.
Q: The production of Root for You is stunning, blending electronic and classical elements. What inspired this unique sound?
I’ve always been drawn to contrasts in music—organic instruments paired with modern, electronic beats. For this song, I wanted a cinematic, art-pop feel. We incorporated harp, violin, viola da gamba, and piano to add depth and emotion while layering it with electronic beats to ground it in the present. It creates a balance between timelessness and modernity, which felt perfect for the message of the song.
Q: You collaborated with some incredible artists and producers on this track. What was that experience like?
It was amazing! Co-producing with Leoš Gerteis at NJP Studios in Zurich was such a learning experience. He has an incredible ear and history working with icons like Tina Turner and YELLO. Marque Gilmore (Innamost) crafted the beats and sonic elements in Stockholm, while Rebekah Reid brought her unique touch to the violin and viola da gamba. Marysia Osuchowska’s harp melodies added such beauty, and Helge van Dyk’s piano parts tied everything together. It was a collaborative effort, and I’m so proud of what we created.
Q: How did these collaborations shape the final version of Root for You?
Each contributor brought something unique to the table. For instance, Marque’s beats gave the song its pulse, while Rebekah’s strings added layers of emotion. Leoš was incredible at guiding the mixing and mastering process, ensuring every element fit seamlessly. Everyone’s contributions elevated the song and brought my vision to life in ways I couldn’t have done alone.
Q: Your music blends so many influences. How do artists like Florence and the Machine, Aurora, and Massive Attack shape your sound?
They’ve all inspired me in different ways. Florence and the Machine’s emotional intensity, Aurora’s ethereal storytelling, and Massive Attack’s rich soundscapes resonate with me. I draw from their ability to create immersive musical experiences while staying true to my own voice and message.
Q: Beyond Root for You, you’ve been making waves with releases like Siren. What’s your approach to balancing versatility and consistency in your music?
It’s all about staying authentic while exploring new ideas. Siren was a collaboration with dub techno producer 59 Perlen, which pushed me into a different musical space. With Root for You, I wanted to focus on my roots and emotional storytelling. Both tracks reflect different facets of who I am as an artist, but they share the same core: honesty and connection.
Q: You’re also very active on YouTube, sharing acoustic versions of your songs. Why is this important to you?
Acoustic videos strip everything back to the heart of the song. They allow me to connect with listeners in a raw, unfiltered way. Music has the power to uplift and empower, and I want to use my platform to make a positive impact, especially for women around the world.
Q: What’s next for Ingeborg? Can fans expect more music or visuals soon?
Definitely! The official music video for Root for You is in development, and I’m so excited to visually bring the song’s message to life. Beyond that, I’m working on more music and collaborations. This journey is just beginning, and I can’t wait to share more with everyone.
